TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – One thousand hot Thanksgiving meals are set to be delivered to families in Tallahassee Wednesday. These meals are going to those who are unable to get to traditional drive-thru food distributions.
This effort is a partnership between Second Harvest of the Big Bend, 211, Keiser University, and DoorDash. Second Harvest CEO Monique Ellsworth said the “thankful delivery program” marks the organization’s first effort to bring meals directly to homes.
“All of our Thanksgiving efforts have been centered around these large drive-thru distributions,” Ellsworth said. “But we know there are families that can’t quite access those, so our thankful delivery program is really an effort for us to eliminate the barrier of transportation that many of the families in our community have.”

Keiser University students prepared 4,000 meals for 1,000 families of four using ingredients supplied by Second Harvest. Staff at 211 coordinated with families who needed home delivery, while volunteers packed the meals.
DoorDash drivers completed the final step, bringing full Thanksgiving spreads, including turkey, sides and desserts, directly to doorsteps.
Ellsworth said more than 900 volunteers were needed to carry out the operation.
After Thanksgiving, Second Harvest will immediately move into its winter food distributions and is continuing to seek additional volunteers.
