SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said on Wednesday that the man involved in a Suwannee County crash that killed two children and a woman from Lake City was in the country illegally and had been deported before.

In a social media post, Uthmeier said that Marin Lagunas Ramirez, who also died in the crash when a third vehicle crashed into his, had cocaine on him and was likely driving drunk while in the wrong lane when the crash occurred.

“We pray for the families of the innocent lives taken at the hands of those who should’ve never been in our country in the first place and for the FHP Troopers who respond to these horrific and tragic incidents,” the state attorney general said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said that the multi-vehicle crash involving three cars happened just before 10 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 90 in Suwannee County.

Overall, the crash left four people dead, including two young girls from Lake City, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The children, ages 8 and 6, were riding in a car driven by a 76-year-old woman from Lake City.

FHP said the circumstances of the crash are still not known, but the woman and the two children died at the scene.
