About 4,000 meals were prepared by the volunteers and later loaded into trucks to take to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Apopka.

The meals will be distributed to homeless encampments and to seniors who are home bound.

A total of 7,000 meals were prepared with the remaining 3,000 to go to the main Salvation Army campus on Colonial Drive. The meals will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The goal is to make sure that no one goes hungry on Thanksgiving.

Master Chef Alex Erdmann said this is an opportunity that gives his students the best of both worlds.

“This is a quality I normally don’t teach because I don’t have the capacity,” said Erdmann, Valencia’s School of Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts. “But here you can actually learn how to cook over 7,000 meals and then get the connection into the community, it’s like here you actually did something amazing.”
