Walking around campus at FSU, you notice something instantly: FSU is a school full of cool girls. Girls who are interesting, ambitious, independent, community-driven, and unafraid to be themselves. Girls who embrace new ideas, chase their passions, and bring personality into every space they enter. At FSU, this energy isn’t a coincidence; it’s a legacy.

Historically, FSU began as a women’s college, and those early students were the original cool girls. Those young women were bold enough to pursue higher education at a time when many people didn’t think they should. They were ambitious women who were pioneers, who chose education, independence, and community long before these things were normalized for women, setting the tone for the women who continue their education at FSU today.

In many ways, every girl who chooses FSU today is continuing a legacy that started more than a century ago. Honestly, how could FSU girls not be cool? This is a campus unlike any other. For starters, what other school has its own circus? The FSU Flying High Circus is one of the most unique college traditions in the country. Students literally fly through the air, balance on tightropes, and perform daring stunts with confidence, athleticism, and grace.

Then there’s the Askew Student Life Center (ASLC), which hosts some of the most fun and creative events on campus, including drag shows that celebrate expression, creativity, and community. There’s also WVFS, the student-run radio station that feels straight out of a movie, literally the FSU version of Pitch Perfect, introducing students to new music and underground artists.

FSU even has the most adorable campus cats, and Tallahassee takes it further with its own cat café. Pair that with our campus’s cute coffee shops, like Patchwork Coffee, cute bookstores, the shops at Lake Ella, thrift stores, and the local art scene in Railroad Square, and it becomes obvious: cool girls thrive here because there’s room for them to be exactly who they are.

FSU’s student organizations reflect that same creative, expressive energy, including the many culture and fashion publications like Strike Magazines, where the girls slay every outfit, photoshoot, and creative concept. This also includes Her Campus at FSU, which has one of the most active and engaged organizations, publishing some, if not the most, articles out of all of FSU’s publications! Here, women write perfectly crafted pieces on everything from news and politics to pop culture; there’s no shortage of spaces for women to lead, connect, and shine.

Furthermore, FSU is ranked #1 in the country for Greek life, with the girlies in sororities going above and beyond for their philanthropic interests. Not only are the girls who go here the coolest, but I’m surrounded almost entirely by women who are some of the smartest, hardest-working, and most professional people I’ve ever met. The faculty is also full of incredibly accomplished women who drive groundbreaking research every day.

Even FSU’s aesthetic screams cool-girl energy. Garnet and gold are classy, timeless colors that are instantly recognizable, just like the women who wear them. Also, of course, FSU has the privilege of upholding some of the most powerful symbols in college sports: Osceola and Renegade. The Seminole Tribe is known as the “Unconquered People” because a small group successfully resisted forced removal, never signed a peace treaty, and maintained their presence in Florida.

That history isn’t just a symbol; it’s an honor, and one that FSU students treat with respect. The “Unconquered” spirit is more than a statue or a tradition; it’s a mindset. It’s the strength, bravery, and resilience that all FSU students have because the community at FSU is unlike any other.

FSU has always been a place for cool girls, especially because it’s the place that helps you grow, learn, and become a better and cooler version of yourself. A place where individuality is celebrated and where supportive women are always there to uplift you.
