TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – There were lots of home cooked meals and heartwarming fellowship across the capital city for Thanksgiving Day.
“What a better way to spend your Thanksgiving than to share it with others in need and I think especially this year with prices so high and so many are needing help, it’s a great way to give back to the community,” one volunteer said.
Annie Johnson served up more than just fresh greens and juicy turkey in year 27 for Project Annie, a tradition she has carried on her shoulders to make sure the community is taken care of.

“Well that’s what the Lord told to me do to feed his people so that’s what I’m tryna do.”
“[People] come by and hug me, kiss me, tell me ‘thank you Ms. Annie for this hot food’ and that makes me feel great,” Annie Johnson, Project Annie founder said.
A great feeling for Ms. Annie and dozens of volunteers to feed more than 2,000 people, and not too far down the road, The American Legion opened their doors to those who served our country and anyone else in need of a plate.

“Maybe somebody doesn’t have somewhere to go and someone doesn’t have anyone to be with and Thanksgiving is just all about being together with the people you love and just sharing good times,” Austin Ghazvini, founding member said.
Welcoming all with open arms, hundreds of neighbors and strangers becoming family over a shared meal.
Highlighting the true meaning of Thanksgiving as a time to reflect, show gratitude and most importantly spread love.
“This gives you something to look forward to. Not only does it do, that it makes you very proud of your commitment for your people, your country and what it stands for,” one veteran said.
