Police are looking for a Grinch who stole Christmas decorations from a family in North Miami Beach in a brazen theft caught on camera.
It happened at around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning at the home of Lizbet Leon, near 180th Street and 16th Avenue.
Leon said she put up her holiday decor early, so her kids could get into the spirit—but then she watched as it was stolen right in front of her.
The theft happened just as Leon’s family returned home from Walmart.
As they were going inside, the footage shows how a driver pulled up in a red four-door sedan described as a Chevrolet. The car is seen backing into the front yard before grabbing the Christmas inflatables, right in front of a mother, her in-laws and her kids.
Once Leon noticed, video shows how she ran over with her baby on her hip to try to stop the thief, but they sped off and got away with three of the decorations.
“I realized that he parked next door, rear-facing, and he started packing everything, so we went outside. My mother-in-law, myself and my two kids and started yelling. So he tried to pull as much as he can and run away with everything,” she said.
Leon was not only upset that someone would do this during the holidays, but is also concerned, as her kids play in her front yard all the time.
“That’s my main concern, because my kids, they are always playing outside. Sometimes they are by themselves; I’m outside with the door open, checking from time to time, but this just happened like this, in seconds,” she said.
North Miami Beach police are looking into the case, and the family wants people to be on the lookout for the thief.
