Travelers share post-Thanksgiving experiences at Jacksonville International Airport as they head back home

  • November 29, 2025

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, many people are traveling back home, which usually means more cars on the road and busier airports, including Jacksonville International Airport.

When News4JAX arrived at the airport, it was business as usual inside, with more flights arriving than departing on Friday night after Thanksgiving.

Some travelers tell us they flew into town for tomorrow’s football game between Florida and Florida State. Others were visiting or returning home to Northeast Florida.

Travelers shared different experiences depending on where they flew out of. Some scheduled to leave Jacksonville tonight found their flights delayed until tomorrow.

Traveler Neil Shulman said, “Newark was packed. Newark was absolutely packed.”

Kevin Schea said, “Today was easy. Traffic was down.”

“Easy. None of the flights I was on were full.” When asked if that was surprising, she said, “It was,” Kim Vansickle shared.

Shasta Fahs said, “Everything left on time. Didn’t have a problem at all, so it’s been great for me.”

Bo Zayas added, “It wasn’t hectic as all in terms of the usual.”

One woman we spoke with said her flight to and from Las Vegas was not full and she wondered if that had more to do with either the economy or the recent government shutdown.
