1. Pinellas County makes big strides in 1st month of beach renourishment
Pinellas County is now one month into its massive beach renourishment project that will bring 2.5 million cubic yards of sand onto a 9-mile stretch of eroded coastline.

2. St. Pete chocolate factory sees price increase from tariffs
Schakolad Chocolate Factory in St. Petersburg is dealing with a nearly 50% increase. 

3. Egyptian president says Trump’s Mideast proposal is ‘last chance’ for peace in the region
The U.S. and Egyptian presidents are chairing a gathering of world leaders dubbed “Summit for Peace” today to support ending the more than two-year Israel-Hamas war in Gaza after a breakthrough ceasefire deal.

4. Hazmat situation prompts evacuations in Tampa neighborhood
Tampa Fire Rescue’s Hazardous Materials Team, along with the Tampa Police Department’s Bomb Squad responded to a home on South Covina Circle near the Busch Gardens area this morning.

5. China shows no sign of backing down while issuing call for U.S. to withdraw tariff threat
China did not back down today in a back-and-forth with the U.S. over trade, calling for U.S. President Donald Trump to withdraw his latest threat of a 100% tariff and other export control measures announced over the weekend.

TRAFFIC ALERT | The eastbound lane on East 21st Avenue is closed between North Nebraska Avenue and North 10th Street while the Tampa Water Department repairs a water main break. There will be barricades and signs in the area to help reroute traffic. The work is expected to be completed with a return to normal traffic patterns by 4 p.m. Friday, weather permitting. The Tampa Water Department may need to return at a later date to complete additional work.

Cruz said he grew up fishing with his father in Puerto Rico and then in the Bay area when his family moved to Safety Harbor.
