No. 22 Pitt football is set for a critical ACC clash against No. 12 Miami, but the Panthers have several of their key players once again listed as questionable heading into the regular-season finale.
Starting running back Desmond Reid, starting defensive tackles Sean FitzSimmons and Francis Brewu, starting kicker Trey Butkowski and offensive lineman Ryan Carretta are all listed as questionable, per the ACC’s initial availability report that was released Thursday evening. Backup linebacker Nick Lapi is once again ruled out against the Hurricanes.
Reid has dealt nonstop with injury issues throughout the 2025 campaign. The senior first suffered an injury against West Virginia. He was then in and out of the lineup before suffering yet another setback against Notre Dame that kept him out last week against Georgia Tech.
Reid has missed four total games. He has totaled 278 rushing yards with two touchdowns, along with 317 receiving yards and two scores.
FitzSimmons missed his second consecutive game with an injury. The redshirt junior has started all nine games he was available for, recording 20 tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack.
Brewu was banged up a few times in the Georgia Tech win. The sophomore has registered 32 tackles, five tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble.
Butkowski has missed two games in a row as he’s been dealing with an “illness.” The true freshman has been excellent for the Panthers hitting 19-of-21 fields goals with a long of 47. He broke the Pitt record of 16 consecutive makes. He is also 40-of-41 on PATs.
Carretta was a game-time decision against Georgia Tech last week. While dressed, Carretta did not play a snap. He was helped off the field in the fourth quarter against Notre Dame.
