#22 Pittsburgh vs. #12 Miami: The matchup

Any shot of a Pitt appearance in the ACC title game requires a win over Miami, which Pat Narduzzi and company have shown is far from an impossibility. The Panthers have won six of their past seven games, the only loss coming to then-No. 9 Notre Dame (37-15), and come off a 42-28 road win over then-No. 16 Georgia Tech. Owners of the nation’s No. 12 scoring offense (37.6 ppg), they are also top-10 against the run and roll into the weekend with their own ground game after Ja’Kyrian Turner torched the Yellow Jackets for 201 yards and a touchdown.

With a win and either a Virginia loss to Virginia Tech or an SMU loss to California, Pittsburgh can clinch a spot in the ACC title game for a win-and-in College Football Playoff bid. The higher-ranked Hurricanes need more chips to fall their way in order to earn the same position for an ACC championship. Even so, Miami rides an early-season résumé boosted by a Week 1 victory over No. 6 Notre Dame (27-24) that was part of an opening five-game win streak. The Hurricanes have since lost twice in ACC play to Louisville (24-21) and at SMU (26-20), but they’ve put together three straight convincing wins to remain in the CFP and ACC title conversations.
