TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – After many people shopped for deals on Black Friday, entrepreneurs in the capital city are celebrating Small Business Saturday.
Li Simmons, owner of Hard Velvet Handmade, said she is grateful for the community support. “When you do support a small business, you’re supporting a family – my family for sure,” Simmons said. “It actually means a lot to me.”
Simmons has owned her natural skincare and wellness business for the past 10 years, and she said she appreciates people who choose to shop local. “It’s reassuring and exciting to know people trust me with their skincare.”

Andrea Williams and her sister, Toni, specialize in large-scale, handmade wreaths. Williams said they are carrying on the traditions of their mother, who also enjoyed making crafts.
“We grew up around it,” Williams said.
She said it’s a special feeling to see people supporting Small Business Saturday and their crafts. “It makes us keep going,” Williams said. “It feels that you took a little bit of our love into your home and what we put into it.”
She also said shopping with small business owners puts money back into the local economy.
“Keep funding our local community,” Williams said.
Both Williams and Simmons were vendors at the Downtown Tallahassee Market. Although Saturday was the last of the regular market season, the Just One More Holiday Market will be on Dec. 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ponce de Leon Park.
