A Charlotte County corrections lieutenant was killed late Saturday in a motorcycle crash in North Fort Myers, authorities said.

Lt. William Garlick was riding home from his shift when his motorcycle collided with an SUV at North Cleveland Avenue and Delft Avenue near Windmill Village, according to Charlotte County Public Safety and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. No other injuries were reported, and investigators have not released additional details about the crash.

Garlick, a longtime member of the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, is remembered as a devoted public servant and family man.

“It is my unfortunate duty to share that, last night, CCSO Corrections Lt. William Garlick lost his life in a motorcycle accident on his way home from his shift,” Sheriff Bill Prummell said in a statement. He called Garlick a leader, a friend to many and someone the agency will “never forget.”

Charlotte County Public Safety also issued a message of support, saying the loss was felt across the county’s emergency services community. The department described Garlick as someone whose kindness and care for others left a lasting impact.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office released a statement, “We mourn alongside our brothers and sisters at Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office as they face the devastating loss of Lt. Garlick. Our hearts are with his family, friends, and the entire CCSO community during this painful time. Please keep them all in your thoughts and prayers.”

The sheriff’s office said it will release more information about Garlick’s career at a later time.
