The Village of Key Biscayne recently held their annual Veteran’s Day Commemoration.

Community members and veterans alike were moved by the event, which took place on a sunny and windy Tuesday morning at the Village Green.

Michael M. King, Post #374 Commander, hosted the event. The Key Biscayne Police and Fire Rescue Color Guard held their posting of colors, followed by a singing of the Star-Spangled Banner and America the Beautiful by local resident Alexandra Fadel.

Mayor Joe Rasco gave attendees opening remarks to commemorate the day, and Fr. Juan Carlos Paguagua, of St. Agnes Catholic Church, gave the invocation. All Village Council members were present, along with Village Manager Steve Williamson and the KB Chamber of Commerce’s Tatyana Chiocchetti.

Sergeant Robert Ascencio, of the U.S. Army Reserves Sergeant-3rd/BN/11th Special Forces, spoke about his experience throughout his service, expressing his gratitude for his fellow veterans.

Ascencio was followed by Post #374 Historian Larry LaRusse, who shared with attendees the life stories of some of the veterans, many of whom were centenarians, they had lost in 2025.
