With a 25-3 win over the Tennessee Titans, the Jacksonville Jaguars enter December with an 8-4 record and sitting atop the AFC South.

While there were some surprise performances around the NFL on Sunday, this game followed the script. The Titans did manage to force a punt on the opening drive of the game, and the Tennessee offense drove 70 yards down the field in 11 plays to take a 3-0 lead, but that’s about where the optimism stopped for the Titans. The Jaguars responded with a touchdown on their next drive to go up 7-3. The Titans then fumbled on the ensuing kickoff, which the Jaguars turned into a touchdown three plays later for a 15-3 lead.

The game then entered a stalemate for most of the first half, with the next six combined drives each resulting in a three-and-out punt. Overall, there were nine three-and-out drives in the game, as neither team did much to add entertainment value to the contest.

There was a feisty sequence in the fourth quarter, as Jaguars punter Logan Cooke took exception to Titans running back Julius Chestnut continuing a block beyond the whistle. A flag had already come in on Chestnut but Cooke went over to confront Chestnut, which ignited a scuffle between the two teams. As a result of the sequence, Cooke and Jaguars long snapper Ross Matscik were given personal foul penalties that offset, and Titans safety Mike Brown was ejected from the game.

The Jaguars finished the game with 25 unanswered points. Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers continued to build rapport with quarterback Trevor Lawrence, hauling in all six of his targets for 90 yards and a touchdown. It’s the second consecutive week that Meyers has found the end zone, and those two scores are his only touchdowns of the season. Meyers consistently expressed his desire to get out of Las Vegas and he’s been a solid contributor since coming to the Jaguars at the trade deadline. Tight end Brenton Strange also had three catches and a touchdown as he continues to work his way back into the offense after returning from injured reserve last week.

While beating the Titans was merely a formality, a big test awaits the Jaguars. The Indianapolis Colts lost to the Houston Texans on Sunday, dropping their record to 8-4 as well, but the Jaguars own the tiebreaker based on win percentage in common games. Jacksonville will host Indianapolis next week in a pivotal AFC South matchup before the two teams meet again on Dec. 28 in Indianapolis. While the two teams enter December with identical records and two looming head-to-head matchups, the division has really become a three-team race, with the Texans on the heels of both teams at 7-5. Houston has just one division game remaining, which is the season finale against the Colts.

The loss further solidified the Titans’ chances of earning the No. 1 pick for the second straight year. They are the league’s only one-loss team and now have about a 59 percent chance at the No. 1 pick, according to The Athletic’s NFL simulator.
