Sunrise Airways Launches New Fort Lauderdale Route in December 2025
Published on
December 1, 2025
Sunrise Airways, the Haiti-based carrier, will officially launch its inaugural Fort Lauderdale service on December 15, 2025, adding a new route between Cap-Haïtien International Airport (CAP) in Haiti and Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport (FLL) in Florida. This marks an exciting expansion for Sunrise Airways, which previously began its Florida operations with a daily flight to Miami in October 2023.
The new route will operate three times per week, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, offering convenient travel options for passengers between Haiti and South Florida. This service represents the airline’s ongoing strategy to expand its presence in the U.S. market and enhance connectivity between the Caribbean and Florida.
Flight Schedule and Aircraft Details
The flight, numbered S6 612, will depart Cap-Haïtien at 10:00 a.m., arriving in Fort Lauderdale at 12:00 p.m. The return flight, S6 611, will leave Fort Lauderdale at 1:15 p.m. and arrive in Cap-Haïtien by 3:15 p.m. The service will be operated with Airbus A320 aircraft, featuring a single-class cabin configuration with all-leather seating for up to 179 passengers. The introduction of the A320 aircraft will help accommodate demand and ensure a comfortable travel experience for passengers flying between these destinations.
Strengthening Connectivity Between Haiti and South Florida
For Sunrise Airways, the addition of Fort Lauderdale to its network strengthens its Caribbean-to-U.S. connection, offering Haitian travellers and the Caribbean diaspora another major gateway to the U.S. The move aims to bolster the airline’s reach, especially among the growing number of Florida-based Haitian Americans and other travellers between the Caribbean and the U.S..
According to Gary Stone, CEO of Sunrise Airways, the Fort Lauderdale route will provide an attractive alternative to the already established Miami service. The new route offers passengers more options for their travel between Haiti and South Florida, making it easier to connect with the broader U.S. network and beyond.
Stone also highlighted that the airline plans to continue expanding its U.S. presence, with additional destinations in the works for 2026 and beyond, further strengthening its role in the Caribbean and international travel market.
Benefits for Florida and Haitian Travellers
The new Fort Lauderdale–Cap-Haïtien service opens up fresh possibilities for travel between South Florida and Haiti, especially for those based in the Fort Lauderdale area, who may have found the Miami route less convenient. This move also reflects a shift towards improving accessibility for passengers in both regions, with the flight schedule carefully timed to accommodate the needs of both business travellers and tourists.
For Florida-based Haitians, this new route will not only facilitate easier visits home, but also foster deeper cultural and economic ties between the two regions. The service is also expected to attract tourists from the U.S. and beyond, looking for unique travel experiences in Haiti.
The addition of this route is also a boon for tour operators, travel agencies, and corporate travel managers who can now promote Haiti as an easy-to-access destination for U.S. visitors. Additionally, the introduction of low-cost flights between the two regions is likely to increase tourism demand to both Haiti and South Florida.
Expanding the U.S. Network: Sunrise Airways’ Long-Term Strategy
The Fort Lauderdale route complements Sunrise Airways’ long-term strategy to expand its U.S. network. The airline’s recent partnership with GlobalX for additional aircraft capacity also signals its growing confidence in international markets. With its affordable fares and comfortable service, Sunrise Airways is positioning itself as a leading low-cost carrier in the Caribbean.
In addition to Fort Lauderdale, the airline has been expanding its Caribbean routes, with new services to the Bahamas and Dominican Republic expected soon. Sunrise Airways’ ability to effectively tap into both the Florida–Haiti travel corridor and regional Caribbean demand strengthens its competitive edge in the growing regional market.
What This Means for Caribbean and U.S. Travel
The launch of the Fort Lauderdale–Cap-Haïtien service by Sunrise Airways enhances connectivity between Haiti and South Florida, offering passengers greater convenience, increased flexibility, and more options for travel. As the airline continues to grow its U.S. footprint, the Caribbean can expect a boost in connectivity, driving both tourism and diaspora travel.
The expansion not only benefits the airline but also South Florida’s economy by increasing access to the Caribbean. This route is set to attract both leisure and business travellers, with future expansions of the airline’s U.S. network on the horizon, indicating a bright future for regional connectivity in the Caribbean and beyond.
