JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The post-holiday rush to get home from holiday destinations was in full swing at the Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) Monday morning.
AAA said this is the final day of the record-breaking Thanksgiving travel period, where over 81 million people drove or took a flight.
While Sunday was the peak return travel day, News4JAX observed a busy airport Monday morning. As of 5:50 a.m., there were two delays and two cancellations.
Across the nation, 49,000 flights are forecasted for Monday, and more than 47,000 flights for Tuesday.
News4JAX spoke with a family that was in town from Texas, heading back home on Monday morning.
“It was great. We’ll see what security is like in five minutes,” Meredith McKay said.

AAA said 6 million people would be catching flights, but over 73 million people were projected to drive.
So for this final day of the travel period, try to avoid 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Experts said that is the worst travel time, but after 8 p.m. should be better.
Safety is a top priority. So even though you want to get home quickly, make sure to be on the lookout for crashes, construction, and pull over for emergency vehicles.
