Mohammed Ibrahim was released last Thursday from an Israeli military detention center, according to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). CAIR is urging the US government to hold Israeli authorities accountable for “the documented torture, starvation, and abuse he endured over nearly nine months of unjust punishment.”
Florida’s insurance commissioner wants regulators to oversee the use of AI by companies
State Insurance Director Michael Yaworsky is joining the effort by Florida lawmakers to manage artificial intelligence, or AI, to make sure regulators can oversee the use of AI for insurance companies. House Bill 527 and an identical Senate bill have been filed to ensure that humans, not algorithms, make decisions about insurance claim denials.
Federal programs to help prevent infant mortality face cuts
The United States consistently has the highest infant mortality rate in the developed world, according to the First Focus Campaign for Children. New federal programs are being put in place to help mitigate this problem. Locally, non-profit organizations like REACHUP partner with hospitals to help provide doulas and other birthing services to address birthing needs in Hillsborough County.
Last week, a federal appeals court ruled that Florida can begin enforcing a law aimed at preventing children from accessing certain social media platforms. This decision means the state can enforce the law while the legal battle continues, according to Attorney General James Uthmeier. House Bill 3 prevents children under the age of 14 from opening accounts on certain social media platforms without parental consent.

Poll workers have begun to tally the votes for the election for their next president, days after President Trump intervened in a close race with an endorsement of one candidate and the announcement that he would pardon a former president. Voting was extended an hour beyond the original closing time in many locations. Voters will also elect a new Congress, as well as many other local positions.
