TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – One Tallahassee school is working to help make sure kids can have presents this Christmas and they’re looking for the community’s help.
Brownsville Preparatory Institute said they are working to collect 5,000 toys for families who aren’t able to get their kids a gift this year.
“Now, more than ever, there is a direct need,” Brownsville Prep Director of Operations Courtney Wright said.
Wright said they are close to reaching their goal and are currently accepting gift donations for kids up to age 13.

The annual toy drive for the school is now in its fifth year. “The reason why we started the toy drive off our first year was because there was a direct need from parents, privately, that expressed that they wanted assistance during Christmas,” Wright said.
The need is what fuels the drive each year, Wright said. “Being able to impact the parents is one of the leading reasons as to why,” she said.
Brownsville Prep is accepting donations through Dec. 3 and you can drop off toys directly to the school. Wright said it’s important to leave the gifts unwrapped, so families can see what they are receiving.
The annual toy drive is on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Griffin Middle School.
