Holland & Knight is continuing to grow its Equine Industry Team with two new ventures: sponsoring its first competitive rider and launching a podcast aimed at providing legal and business insights across the sport.
The firm tapped Kara Lindenberger, an assistant trainer based in Tallahassee, as its first sponsored equestrian athlete. Lindenberger holds a degree in horse production and management from Ohio State University and works with developing horses and riders.
With the firm’s backing, she competed in July’s World Equestrian Center Summer Series — and won — and is set to ride at the Educational 3-Day at the Florida Horse Park in November. She also appears in the inaugural episode of the firm’s new podcast, The Tack Room.
The show’s second episode features Lisa Lazarus, CEO of the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority. Future installments will include voices from within the sport, along with regulators and legal professionals navigating issues shaping the equine sector.
“Members of our team are committed to the equine industry,” said Kayla Pragid, chair of Holland & Knight’s Equine Industry Team. “We are excited and proud to be helping, even in a small way, to help develop the next generation of equestrian talent.”
Public Affairs Advisor Tori Deal said the podcast will dig into everything from Florida’s ongoing decoupling debate and anti-doping rules to tax, fraud and real estate issues tied to show horses, farms and training facilities.
“The equine community spans a broad range of talents and specialists, and our podcast aims to have something for everyone,” she said.
Holland & Knight launched its Equine Industry Team last year. The group now includes more than 55 lawyers and advisors with clients spanning competitive sport, breeding, syndication, betting and gaming.
Recent work includes defending the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority in an anti-doping case, securing a multimillion-dollar settlement in an international equine fraud lawsuit, advising an equestrian-focused fantasy sports platform, and helping a major events company win management rights for portions of Miami-Dade’s Tropical Park.
The firm has offices near major equine centers in Florida and across the country.
