ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orlando man was arrested after leaving and then returning to the scene of a hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian seriously injured, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened just before 8 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Dean Road and Flowers Avenue.
According to an arrest report, when troopers arrived on scene, the female victim was receiving CPR. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was airlifted to the hospital and remains in critical condition.
The driver fled the scene but returned approximately 45 minutes to an hour later in a different vehicle, the arrest report states. Deputies identified the driver as Alexander James Petrone, 40, of Orlando. Petrone admitted to driving the vehicle involved in the crash but claimed he was unsure what he had hit.
Investigators found Petrone’s brown Honda Accord at his home about two miles from the crash site. The vehicle showed damage consistent with a pedestrian collision, troopers said.
Petrone was arrested at the scene around 11 p.m. and charged with felony hit and run for failing to stop and remain at the crash involving serious bodily injury. He was booked into the Orange County Jail.
On Monday, he appeared in court, where he was given a $10,000 bond.
