ST. LUCIE COUNTY – The body of a man found inside a fire-ravaged Fort Pierce home on Nov. 28 has been positively identified as Antwan Lamar Daniels, 51, St. Lucie County Sheriff Richard Del Toro confirmed on Dec. 1

Daniels was discovered inside the house at 600 block of South Market Avenue, Fort Pierce on Nov. 28, after St. Lucie County Fire District responded to 911 calls about a fire at the house at about 8:10 p.m.

At first, it was believed that Daniels died from a gunshot wound but the county medical examiner’s office confirmed that blunt trauma to the head, along with smoke inhalation, was the cause of death, Del Toro said in a press briefing.

“Deputies and detectives are working on leads right now, interviewing people who were at the scene,” Del Toro said. “(The suspect) might have had contact with some sort of altercation at the residence resulting in (Daniels) being killed.”

Anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the area or has information related to this incident is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 772-462-7300.
