When Jeanine Reed looks back on precious memories of the past, there’s one person who consistently pops into her head.”Every holiday … every birthday … any time that something should be celebrated, she was making it special for us,” said Jeanine.Jeanine’s mom, Janet, died five years ago. She left the relics she held dear to Jeanine and her siblings.”A lot of glass, a lot of crystal, a lot of things she left behind had to do with the kitchen and things that would bring us all together,” said Jeanine. The one keepsake that drove every family tradition and special gathering was her mom’s special silverware.”She had a set of silver in the traditional wooden box with the velvet interior,” said Jeanine. “We sat around with our polishing rag and got it ready for a meal. Actually, none of us really wanted to keep it and polish it and use it, but I couldn’t just let it go. It was something so special to her.”So instead of using her mom’s silverware in its traditional form, Jeanine discovered a use as unconventional as it is sentimental.”I love that we figured out that that was what we were going to do with it,” said Jeanine.Inside Sandi Davis’ home studio, the family silverware was transformed into family jewels. “We loved it, we absolutely loved it,” said Jeanine. CAPE CORAL, Fla. —
When Jeanine Reed looks back on precious memories of the past, there’s one person who consistently pops into her head.
“Every holiday … every birthday … any time that something should be celebrated, she was making it special for us,” said Jeanine.
Jeanine’s mom, Janet, died five years ago. She left the relics she held dear to Jeanine and her siblings.
“A lot of glass, a lot of crystal, a lot of things she left behind had to do with the kitchen and things that would bring us all together,” said Jeanine.
The one keepsake that drove every family tradition and special gathering was her mom’s special silverware.
“She had a set of silver in the traditional wooden box with the velvet interior,” said Jeanine. “We sat around with our polishing rag and got it ready for a meal. Actually, none of us really wanted to keep it and polish it and use it, but I couldn’t just let it go. It was something so special to her.”
So instead of using her mom’s silverware in its traditional form, Jeanine discovered a use as unconventional as it is sentimental.
“I love that we figured out that that was what we were going to do with it,” said Jeanine.
Inside Sandi Davis‘ home studio, the family silverware was transformed into family jewels.
“We loved it, we absolutely loved it,” said Jeanine.
Now, out of the box and near her heart, Jeanine holds a piece of her mom from the past in the present.
“There’s memories in those pieces, in those little treasures … the simplest things,” said Jeanine. “Who would think, a piece of silverware, you know?”
