PORT ST. LUCIE — A Port St. Lucie Police officer was shot Dec. 1 as officers investigated a disturbance in the Tradition community west of Interstate 95, according to police.
Police responded to an address in the 11000 block of Southwest Lake Park Drive in Port St. Lucie for a disturbance. The specific time wasn’t immediately clear.
“An officer was shot while investigating this incident,” police stated.

The officer who was injured was taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce.
Port St. Lucie Police Chief Leo Niemczyk said a police sergeant was shot in the face and was in surgery late night Dec. 1.
“Law enforcement is actively investigating the circumstances and has secured the scene,” police stated.
