SOUTH HUTCHINSON ISLAND – Discover what happens when the lights go out at the St. Lucie County Aquarium with the popular Aquarium After Dark event, returning on Friday, Dec. 12 from 5:45 to 8 p.m.
As the sun sets, dive into the secret world of marine life after dark. Learn about nautical nightlife and then explore the aquarium in a darkened state, using special flashlights to reveal the secrets of the deep. Advance registration and payment are required, as there is limited space for this exceptional and unique event for adults and children (ages 5 and older).
Additional Aquarium After Dark events are scheduled for Friday, Jan. 16 and Friday, Feb. 13 from 5:45 to 8 p.m. Admission for the Aquarium After Dark Event (pizza/dinner included) is $15 adults / $13 children (ages 5 and older) for non-members and $13 adults / $11 children (ages 5 and older) for members. The Smithsonian Marine Station, in partnership with St. Lucie County and other community partners, created the Smithsonian Marine Ecosystems Exhibit, a branch of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History. The Marine Station is dedicated to understanding the character and diversity of the marine and estuarine habitats of Florida.
Located at 420 Seaway Drive on South Hutchinson Island, the St. Lucie County Aquarium is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. and seasonally (January through March) on Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors can enjoy the guided “feeding frenzy” tours at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. led by Smithsonian educators.
