When passengers get lost or need assistance at Tampa International Airport, the Guest Experience Representatives are always ready to help. And one member of the team quite literally stands out from the rest.
At 6-foot-8, Lee Green is the tallest member of TPA’s Guest Experience Team. While his stature might seem intimidating at first, his bright smile and friendly personality quickly put passengers at ease.
“I’m a bigger guy, so I always try to make myself approachable,” said Green. “Helping people in general just puts a smile on my face and makes me feel good.”
While Lee is an all-star on TPA’s team, he was also a standout on the basketball court. He played all four years at Tampa’s Jesuit High School before being recruited by the College of Coastal Georgia, where he earned the nickname ‘LG3’ — a nod to his initials, Lee Green III, and his ability to sink three-pointers with ease.
After college, Lee attended a job fair at Tampa International Airport, where he met members of the Guest Experience leadership team. He was hired in March — just in time for the Airport’s own version of March Madness during spring break, TPA’s busiest time of the year.
“Just the camaraderie among coworkers here at TPA reminds me a lot of the relationships I had with my teammates back in college,” Lee said. “Many of those guys I still keep in touch with to this day.”
Known for his upbeat personality, Lee takes pride in making passengers feel welcome and comfortable. He attributes his approachable nature and genuine desire to help as the key factors in his success in his role. Every day brings new questions and surprises from travelers, keeping his work exciting and unpredictable. One recent interaction that made him laugh involved a guest complimenting his cologne.
“They said, ‘You smell delicious,’” recalls Green, who’s known for his impressive fragrance collection. He rotates between ten favorite scents, but his top choice is one called “Another 13.”
Outside of work, Lee enjoys staying active and spending time outdoors. He loves basketball, golf, and fishing — both freshwater and deep sea. One unforgettable fishing trip took him 80 miles offshore, where a hammerhead shark as long as the boat swam right past.
Lee also has an adventurous streak when it comes to wildlife. He’s had a fascination with snakes ever since he was a kid, and once had a pet corn snake that escaped inside his family’s home — much to his mother’s dismay. “It must have crawled up into one of the walls,” he said with a smile. “To this day, we never found it.”
Whether he’s helping a lost traveler, swapping stories with coworkers, or sharing a laugh at the Information Desk, Lee Green embodies the spirit of hospitality that makes Tampa International Airport shine.
Next time you’re at TPA, look for him near the Main Terminal Information Desk — and be sure to say hello. Like Phoebe (TPA’s 21-foot tall flamingo), he’s hard to miss!
