The historic St. Petersburg City Theatre celebrates their 100th anniversary this year. In honor of this unbelievable milestone, the theatre invites its patrons to come and watch its last play of the year, A Christmas Carol, and to take part in their “$100 for 100 Years” campaign, an effort to boost facility improvements, youth programs, and future productions to come.

To kick off the holiday season, the St. Pete City Theatre hosts its production of A Christmas Carol from December 12-21. Tickets and dates for the showing are limited, so get yours soon! This play would make a perfect date idea for that special person or an awesome Christmas outing for the family. The St. Pete City Theatre is located at 4025 31st Street South.

100 years of history on stage

Founded in 1925 as the Sunshine Players, the St. Pete City Theatre has grown and evolved alongside the city itself, from its humble beginning of one-night performances to its current standing of multi-play offerings across several age groups.

“We are so grateful for the community partners and supporters who have kept this theatre thriving for 100 years,” said Lisa Marone of St. Petersburg City Theatre. “This centennial is not just about our history, it’s about investing in the next generation of artists and audiences who will carry our mission forward.”

In 2007, the theatre expanded its program to include The Academy at City Theatre, an academy with a focus on the arts, offering classes to kids from ages 7 to 18. The St. Petersburg Theatre continues to inspire the arts and contribute to the culture of the St. Pete/Tampa area.
