Aldi on track to open most stores ever in 2025

The discount chain famous for low prices and store-brand goods (and a complete lack of coupons, in-store delis, bakeries, pharmacies, loyalty programs, baggers or Muzak) has been working to open 225 new stores nationwide in 2025.

It’s the most Aldi has ever opened in a year, with plans for 800 locations by the end of 2028. About 40 Florida Aldis have already opened in 2025.

In just the last few weeks, Aldi locations have sprung up in Englewood, Gainesville, Jacksonville, Lehigh Acres, Naples, New Port Richey, Orlando, Palm Harbor and St. Petersburg. Many of them are converted Winn-Dixies from Aldi’s brief acquisition of that company in 2024-2025.

The new Ormond Beach store will be the third opened in Volusia County this year, with more planned.

Other grocery chains expanding in Florida

Meanwhile Trader Joe’s, a more upscale grocery destination, opened a location in Daytona Beach last week with another coming to Melbourne on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
