ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A St. Pete man died the day before Thanksgiving after police said he rode his e-bike into the path of a car.
The St. Petersburg Police Department says 55-year-old Shapon Sarder was riding a Gotrax e-bike at around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 23, in the area of 49th Street North in the curb lane approaching 39th Avenue North.
Officers say Sarder began riding diagonally in a southeast direction and rode in front of a southbound Hyundai Sonata “for unknown reasons.”
The Hyundai driver was unable to stop and crashed into Sarder’s e-Bike, throwing him off and causing serious injuries, according to police.
SPPD says the driver stopped immediately and stayed on scene.
Sarder was taken to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, where he later died from his injuries on Nov. 26.
