Duke came back from a seven-point deficit midway through the second half, taking the lead back for good on sophomore Patrick Ngongba II’s tip-in of his own missed layup with 5:20 remaining on its way to an 80-71 win over then-No. 22 Arkansas at Chicago’s United Center on Thanksgiving night. Freshman Cameron Boozer went off for a career-high 35 points to go with nine rebounds, junior Caleb Foster added 15 points and eight assists, and Ngongba went for 11 points.
Florida took the consolation game at the Rady Children’s Invitational in San Diego, losing on Thursday afternoon to TCU 84-80 before coming back to beat Providence 90-78 on Friday. The Friars got to within four early in the second half before the Gators put the game away with a 10-0 run. Xaivian Lee paced Florida with 20 points, Urban Klavzar came off the bench for 18, and Boogie Fland scored 17. Thomas Haugh chipped in with 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Rueben Chinyelu also posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards.
Duke has won the last two meetings between the teams and leads the all-time series 14-4, taking an 87-84 victory in the championship game of the Phil Knight Invitational in Portland in their most recent matchup on Nov. 26, 2017.
