An e-bike rider died Nov. 26, three days after being struck by a car in St. Petersburg, police said.

Shapon Sarder, 54, of St. Petersburg, was riding his Gotrax e-bike south on 49th Street North in the curb lane around 12:30 a.m. Nov. 23 when he began moving diagonally to the southeast, according to St. Petersburg police.

Sarder rode into the path of a southbound Hyundai Sonata, police said. The driver was unable to stop and struck the e-bike, throwing Sarder from the bike.

The driver stopped at the scene, police said.

Sarder was taken to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital with life-threatening injuries and died, police said.

Police are investigating why Sarder changed direction.
