Orlando Science Center will exhibit the science of skateboarding during a one-day event featuring demonstrations by Skate Bud and Galactic G Skateshop on Saturday.

Their problem-solving and mental tricks will work in tandem with the Loch Haven Park museum’s ongoing exhibit called “2theXtreme.”

Three sessions will be held on the first level at the science center from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.  They will include Learn, Create, Skate, which teaches fundamentals and physics using fingerboards, plus the creation of custom cardboard skate parks. During Skateboards 101, the board basics program by Skate Bud, modified training boards and instructors help develop the balancing act of standing up on skateboards.  There will also be demonstrations by semi-pro skaters from Galactic G with live tricks.

The “2theXtreme” display includes 40 exhibits that show off activities such as snowboarding, competitive cycling, music mixing, weather forecasting and computer security and their (sometimes hidden) mathematical properties. The exhibit was produced by Evergreen Exhibitions.

Saturday’s activities are included with regular admission to Orlando Science Center. The “2theXtreme” exhibit remains in place through Jan. 5.
