State Attorney’s Office to give update on investigation after officer-involved shooting of unarmed 14-year-old

  • December 3, 2025

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A month after an officer-involved shooting left a 14-year-old boy fighting for his life in the hospital, the State Attorney’s Office is scheduled to give an update on its investigation into the shooting.

The news conference is scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday, and News4JAX will stream it live. Press play above to watch.

According to initial reports from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the incident began with a stolen car in the Brentwood area on Nov. 1.

JSO said officers found the vehicle through license plate readers, and the person driving it led police on a short chase.

The driver hit a police cruiser during the pursuit, JSO said.

Police said that eventually, several people jumped out of the vehicle and started running.

Multiple people were detained at the scene, but around 7:45 p.m., an officer was chasing after one of the people who had been in the car, who “kept putting his hands in his pockets.”

The report said the officer yelled to the teen to take his hands out of his pockets, but the teen didn’t, and the officer shot at him multiple times.

The teen was rushed into surgery in critical condition. His name has not been released.

According to JSO’s database on officer-involved shootings, the teen did not have a weapon at the time of the shooting.

The officer involved in the shooting was 27-year-old Jacob T. Cahill, who has been with JSO for three years.
