Florida Senate President Ben Albritton‘s office announced he will dedicate a plaque in honor of the late Bill Cotterell, the legendary Tallahassee Democrat reporter and columnist whose decades of political coverage made him a fixture in Sunshine State journalism.
The plaque will be installed in the Senate Press Gallery, which is named after another state journalism legend, the late Lucy Morgan, who retired as Tallahassee bureau chief of what was then called the St. Petersburg Times.
Expected to attend the ceremony are members of Cotterell’s family, including wife Cynthia Fuller and Carrie Venclauskas, mother of Meagan Cotterell, who is wife of Cotterell’s son, Chris.

The dedication will take place Dec. 8 in a ceremony where Capitol Press Corps attendees can share their thoughts on Cotterell’s life and legacy.
The family separately announced a private memorial service for family, friends and colleagues Dec. 4, at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road in Tallahassee.
A public remembrance of Cotterell is being planned for sometime next year, they said.
