A man was arrested after Cape Coral police said he was connected to multiple burglaries in November.Police officers responded to a vehicle burglary that was reported at a residence along SW 26th Avenue on Nov. 7. The homeowner, Brice Kitchell, said that overnight, someone broke into their vehicle and stole several items. These items include a camouflage jacket, a softball bag and cash.Kitchell said his neighbor’s surveillance video caught the man carrying bulky items, including a jacket, away from the vehicle. He said the softball equipment stolen was his daughter’s. “Me and my wife work hard every day to be able to pay for things like that for my daughter to enjoy and just for somebody to come in and just take it, you know, it just hurts,” said Kitchell. Another burglary was reported at a residence along SW 38th Street at approximately 2:38 p.m. on Nov. 20. The victim’s security footage showed a man on a pink bicycle approach the house and enter the garage.The victim told police that the man stole a scooter that was modified with a trailer-style bike attachment, featuring a red helmet and an American flag. The scooter was worth $1,000, according to police.CCPD said investigators were able to connect Richard Steven Chinn, 47, to multiple crimes.On the night of Nov. 22, police responded to SW 26th Place regarding a man walking around a new construction property. Chinn reportedly avoided contact and fled from the officers. According to the CCPD news release, he was found hiding beneath trash cans in an area with recent burglaries.Police said Chinn was seen wearing the Mossy Oak camouflage jacket that was believed to have been stolen during the burglary on Nov. 7.Chinn was then arrested and taken to the Lee County Jail on charges of loitering and prowling and resisting an officer without violence.Further investigation linked Chinn to the softball bag that was stolen in the vehicle burglary as well. According to CCPD, officers discovered the bag had been discarded in the garbage at a friend’s residence that Chinn was known to frequent.Chinn was arrested at his residence on Tuesday, and a search warrant was executed at the home.
