Miami University officials said several messages of hate were found in a residence hall on campus last weekend.In a statement to students in Tappan Hall, Miami University’s Dean of Students BaShaun Smith said two antisemitic messages and one racist message were found.One of the antisemitic messages was found on a student’s door, while the other two messages were discovered in a communal bathroom within the hall.“This deplorable behavior is a direct contradiction of our values and the welcoming community we strive to be at Miami. We unequivocally condemn these acts of hate. Please be aware that if you are responsible for writing these hateful messages, we are committed to investigating fully and utilizing every resource available to hold you accountable under the university’s conduct policies,” Smith said.The Hillel Foundation at Miami University said it is aware of the incidents in the residence hall and called them “serious, disturbing, and absolutely unacceptable.”“Our commitment is unwavering: to protect, support, and stand with Jewish students, and to fight antisemitism in every form. We are here, fully engaged, and we will continue pushing for the safety and respect our students deserve,” a statement from the organization said.Campus Rabbi Yossi Greenberg said there could be hundreds of Jewish students who attend Miami.”You had a situation where, it’s never okay, but if it’s happening, how do we as a student react?” Greenberg said. “What I would tell a student is do you see a trend or is it some drunk student? Which, not excusable, but not a threat,” Greenberg said.Miami University says anyone who witnesses hateful symbols being spread on campus should contact a staff member or Miami University Police.”I think it’s disgusting to be honest, you hate to hear that. You don’t want to see that at all, especially in a great community like Oxford, Ohio. You don’t want to hear that at all,” Dara Namin, a freshman who lives at Tappan Hall, said.
