STOCK ISLAND, Fla. (CBS12) — A Florida man is accused of threatening to kill three people with a small machete knife during a road rage incident.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), the male victim was driving to a 12th Avenue residence on Stock Island at around 3:35 p.m. when he drove around a slow-moving vehicle driven by James Varner.

The sheriff’s office says Varner, 55, of Miami Beach, allegedly followed the victim to the residence and then approached him, yelling and then head-butted him, causing a fight between the two.

Two family members rushed outside to break up the altercation. That’s when Varner retrieved a small machete and made verbal threats to kill all three people, deputies say.

Deputies say Varner was taken to the county jail.
