A man has been arrested after Lee County deputies intercepted a package containing drugs they say he ordered.
The suspicious package, which was paid for with cryptocurrency, led to the arrest of Daniel Pesantas at the U.S. Postal Service Processing Center near Southwest Florida International Airport on Wednesday.
The U.S. Postal Service and Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) alerted authorities about the package, suspecting it contained drugs.
Postal inspectors believed the package might contain narcotics, prompting the Lee County Sheriff’s Office to bring in a canine unit. The dog detected narcotics, leading investigators to secure search warrants for both the package and Pesantas’ residence.
Upon examination, investigators found 50 Xanax pills in the package. Pesantas was arrested by LCSO and FDLE deputies when he arrived at the post office to pick up the package. He was also found to be in possession of narcotics at the time of his arrest.
Further search of Pesantas’ residence uncovered a variety of controlled substances, including 260 alprazolam pills, 28 clonazepam pills, 19 clonidine hydrochloride pills, and 13 pantoprazole pills.
Pesantas has a prior criminal history involving battery and possession of a controlled substance. He has also previously received several packages under similar suspicious circumstances.
Pesantas is now facing charges of two counts of possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of a new legend drug.
