The Sanibel Recreation Center announced that American Legion Post 123 donated a specialized PVC pool-access chair to enhance accessibility in its zero-entry pool. An Aqua Creek model known for its corrosion-resistant PVC design, swing-out armrests, sliding footrest and anti-tip features, it is designed to provide safe, dignified pool access for veterans, individuals with disabilities, and any patron whose mobility prevents use of pool steps or traditional ladders. The chair was presented by Post 123 Service Officer Karen Shutway to rec center Deputy Director Char Durand. Also on hand were Legion Cmdr. Tim Moore and Finance Officer Craig Helmen. The zero-entry pool already offers gentle access via beach entry or aquatic chair lift. The addition of the chair will further broaden that accessibility by enabling safe lateral transfers and mobility-device support for those unable to walk or transfer by steps.
