Detectives are investigating the death of Florida-based rapper POORSTACY, and the woman he was staying with before his death is being held Thursday in a local jail on a child neglect charge, according to police and public records.

The 26-year-old performer, whose real name was Carlito Mitford Jr., died Saturday after he was rushed to the Delray Medical Center for treatment following an “incident” at a hotel in the city of Boca Raton, local police said.

So far, the cause of death has not been released. But police have confirmed that Nicole Grikstas, the 24-year-old woman Mitford had been staying with at the Boca Raton Quality Inn along with a toddler, was taken into custody.

Currently, Grikstas is being held in a Palm Beach County jail, records show. She lives in Boca Raton.

It was not immediately clear whether the body of the “Party at the Cemetery” performer was still in the custody of the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner.

“All I can confirm is that Carlito Mitford has passed,” a spokesperson there said.

NBC News has reached out the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office for more details about Mitford’s death and the whereabouts of the young child.

Mitford was known for mixing rap with punk rock and heavy metal — and for his collaborations with Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker. His single “Darkest Night” appeared on the Grammy Award-nominated 2020 “Bill & Ted Face the Music” soundtrack.
