This week, it’ll seem like all of Miami is on the move for Art Week—but the traffic might be at a standstill.
From now until Sunday, Dec. 7, more than 100,000 people are expected to attend Miami Art Week events, which go from 9 a.m. until around 3 a.m. the next day.
And thanks to these several art fairs, Art Basel among the most popular of the bunch, drivers are likely to encounter backups and detours.
Here’s what to know.
Rideshare drop-off points
Miami police say rideshare companies will geofence the area, permitting pickups and drop-offs only at the designated locations listed below:
· N. Miami Avenue and 23rd Street
· NW 1st Avenue and NW 20th Street
· NW 3rd Avenue and NW 21st Street
· NW 3rd Avenue and NW 27th Street
· NW 5th Avenue and NW 24th Street
Expect traffic in these areas
Miami police said that “while no road closures are currently planned, please be aware that heavy traffic congestion may necessitate some detours or closures.”
Some areas where you should expect delays include:
MacArthur Causeway: the exit to Miami Beach toward Interstate 395 and Interstate 95 will be backed up due to roadwork
Venetian Causeway: the bridge won’t open for vessels between 3 and 8 p.m. during the week and 3 to 7 p.m. during the weekend, except for emergencies
Intersections on NE 12th Avenue, NW 146th Street, SW 57th Court and Coral Way, among others, have ongoing construction underway until 2026. Drivers should look for alternate routes.
Police officers will be assigned throughout the area to assist with vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
Tips for moving around during Art Week
If you’re going to be in Miami, especially Wynwood, the Upper Eastside, and Downtown areas, officials encourage:
the use of public transit and/or rideshare services.
considering alternative routes, not just highways, to reach your destination on time.
