TAMPA, Fl. – HCU women’s basketball continues its road stretch on Friday morning with a non-conference matchup at South Florida. Tipoff is set for 10 a.m. at the Yuengling Center in Tampa.
HCU enters the contest at 3-3 overall and 1-0 in Southland play after picking up back-to-back wins, including a 77-57 victory over Concordia (TX) and a 79-66 road win at New Orleans. The Huskies and Bulls have met only once before, a 2017 matchup in Tampa that USF won 90-43.
Through six games, the Huskies are averaging 74.8 points per game while holding opponents to 69.7. HCU is shooting 46.6 percent from the field and 34.5 percent from three, knocking down 8.3 triples per game and owning a +2.8 rebounding margin. Sophomore forward Grace Booth continues to pace the offense with 15.2 points and 9.8 rebounds per game, shooting 57 percent from the floor and 45.5 percent from deep.
Kamryn McLaurin adds 13.3 points per outing and consistently attacks the free-throw line, while Jordan Jackson provides another double-figure threat at 10.2 points per game. HCU is also getting strong contributions from Tove Caesar, Dasia Hyams, and Madelyne Davis, helping the Huskies average 15.7 assists per game and generate 11.5 steals defensively.
South Florida enters at 5-4 after a 90-58 win over New Orleans and a home loss to No. 1 UConn earlier this week. The Bulls average 68.9 points per game and allow 69.8, shooting 41.0 percent from the field while owning a +5.1 rebounding margin.
USF is led by Edyn Battle at 14.2 points per game, with Katie Davidson (12.0) and L’or Mputu (10.3 points, 8.7 rebounds) also in double figures. Stefanie Ingram fuels the offense with 6.0 assists per game, and Fatou Diakite gives the Bulls an efficient interior presence at over 60 percent shooting.
Friday’s matchup will test HCU’s perimeter scoring and pressure defense against USF’s size and rebounding strength. Limiting turnovers, finishing possessions on the glass and maintaining ball movement will be key as the Huskies look to secure a third straight win.
HCU returns to Sharp Gym on Friday, Dec. 12, to resume Southland Conference play against Southeastern at 6 p.m.
