POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a father and son late last month on several felony charges, including kidnapping.
They have been identified by authorities as Oscar Garcia Berrios, 50, and Brandon Garcia, 23, both of Miami.
According to police, Brandon Garcia purchased a 2021 white Mercedes-Benz from a car salesman known as “Mane” and also known as “Weezy,” who told Garcia to meet with one of the victims at his business in order to finalize the title transfer.
Before the meeting, Brandon Garcia said he received a text message that indicated the victim planned to rip him off, but they agreed to meet at a shop in Pompano Beach, Car Express Florida at 1424 SW 12th Ave., and sort out the differences.
When the victim arrived at his shop, which was closed at the time, police said both Brandon and Oscar Garcia were waiting outside, along with another person and a pickup truck.
After they all went inside the shop, an arrest form said that after the three men demanded the victim transfer the title and issue a permanent tag, and the victim said he wouldn’t bypass regulations, the Garcias each produced a gun.
Police said Brandon Garcia pointed an AR-15 style pistol at the victim while Oscar Garcia held a pistol at his side, and after they removed the victim’s gun from under his shirt, they told him to contact “Weezy” for a refund.
At one point, the victim was able to secretly text his girlfriend that he was in trouble, police said, and when a female victim arrived in concern for the initial victim’s safety, the three men brought her inside and also held her at gunpoint.
Eventually, the Garcias ordered the victims into the female victim’s vehicle in search of “Weezy”, during which time police said one of the victims shared their location with family members after saying they had been kidnapped.
Up until then, the pickup truck and the third individual who had been with the Garcias was following the victims’ vehicle, but it took off, police said.
After speaking with “Weezy” and agreeing to meet at the RaceTrac at 3001 SW 30th Ave. in Hollywood, police quickly responded and located the victims and the Garcias in the vehicle, along with both guns and stolen property belonging to the victims.
Both were taken into custody and they are each being held at the Broward Main Jail on no bond.
