STUART — A Virginia man was arrested Nov. 29 on various charges after fleeing a traffic stop in Stuart.
According to SPD, the department’s traffic enforcement unit attempted a traffic stop on 34-year-old Craig Willingham Jr. of Manassas, Virginia after he failed to stop before entering northwest Federal Highway from the North Shore Plaza area.
According to SPD, Willingham initiated a pursuit after fleeing the traffic stop by making a U-turn and allegedly speeding northbound with his headlights off.
He lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a telephone and then fled on foot, according to SPD.
SPD and Martin County Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted with their aviation unit and located Willingham at a nearby apartment complex.
He was taken into custody and police found drugs in his vehicle.
He was charged with:
-Fleeing and eluding
-Resisting arrest without violence
-Driving while license suspended with knowledge
-Leaving the scene of a crash
-Possession of Cannabis under 20 grams
-Possession of drug paraphernalia
-Trespassing.
