ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Months after signing an extension that would have kept him with the school through the 2026 season, Georgia Tech offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner has taken the same position at Florida, according to multiple reports.
Faulkner, 44, has been with the school since 2023 and signed a contract extension in July. Nonetheless, he will join first-year Florida coach Jon Sumrall in Gainesville, Florida, for the 2026 season.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel was the first to break the news.
His contract would have been through Jan. 31, 2027, and, per the terms of his agreement, Faulkner will owe Tech 100 percent of his base salary. His base salary was $1,250,000.
Georgia Tech averaged seven yards per play in 2025, ranking among the top 10 nationally. Faulkner was named a semifinalist for the 2025 Broyles Award, which is given to the top assistant coach in college football.
A Parkview High School graduate, Faulkner previously spent time as a quality control assistant at Georgia, where he worked with quarterbacks for national title teams in 2021 and 2022. Stetson Bennett threw for nearly 7,000 yards and 56 touchdowns as a two-year starter. In three seasons with quarterback Haynes King in Atlanta, King threw for 7,653 yards with 53 touchdowns and 23 interceptions.
On Thursday, Florida reportedly also brought on Kentucky’s Brad White as defensive coordinator.
Neither Georgia Tech nor Florida has announced the move.
