Under the current policy, the city’s risk manager can approve claims up to $50,000, and the Liability Oversight Committee can approve those up to $100,000. Anything higher than that has to go to the City Commission.
According to the agenda item, the review aims to adjust the settlement authority for the risk manager and the LOC, citing trends of increasing injury verdicts and costs.
The city recommends increasing the risk managers’ settlement authority to $75,000 and the LOC’s authority to $150,000.
This review will take place at Wednesday’s commission meeting and requires the commission’s approval.
