PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — Bright lights, big city, and a whole lot of crime on the Treasure Coast.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office (SLCSO), in collaboration with several other agencies, has launched Operation Bright Lights, Safe Lights. According to the sheriff’s office, over the past two days, deputies and officers from the Port St. Lucie Police Department, Fort Pierce Police Department, the Florida Highway Patrol, and the Martin County Sheriff’s Office teamed up to enforce traffic laws along major corridors throughout the county.

It led to an obvious, coordinated presence that drivers definitely noticed.

The operation resulted in:

249 traffic stops146 citations issued189 written warnings issued1 DUI arrest11 criminal traffic citations2 felony warrant arrests3 misdemeanor warrant arrests3 felony traffic offense arrests

Law enforcement says they made it clear: unsafe driving won’t “blend in with the holiday lights.”

SLCSO says that Operation “Bright Lights, Safe Nights” will continue with additional enforcement waves scheduled and multiple agencies hitting the roads again.

“Our goal remains simple, to keep our community safe, protect families during the busiest time of year, and stop dangerous behavior before it causes tragedy,” the sheriff’s office says.
