TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A temporary road closure of South Calhoun, South Gadsden and East Jefferson streets is expected to take effect next week, according to Leon County officials.
Starting Monday through Wednesday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly, the closure will be in effect “for the removal of fencing and walls adjacent to Washington Square as part of the Washington Square Right-of-Way Restoration,” the Leon County Government wrote in a press release Thursday.
The closure is set to impact the following streets:
South Calhoun Street from East College Avenue to East Jefferson StreetSouth Gadsden Street from East Jefferson Street to East College AvenueEast Jefferson Street from South Calhoun Street to South Gadsden Street

“Southbound traffic on Calhoun Street will have the option of detouring east onto College Avenue then south onto Meridian Street then west onto Pensacola Street to Calhoun Street, or west onto College Street then south onto Monroe Street then east onto Apalachee Parkway to Calhoun Street. Northbound traffic on Gadsden Street will be detoured east onto Jefferson Street then north onto Meridian Street then west onto College Avenue to Gadsden Street.”
Following those road closures, milling and resurfacing work will result in lane closures from Thursday, Oct. 23, through late November from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly, per the county officials.
The following lanes will be impacted:
The westbound lane of East Jefferson Street from South Calhoun Street to South Gadsden StreetThe westmost lane of South Gadsden Street from East Pensacola Street to south of East College AvenueThe eastmost lane of South Calhoun Street, north of East College Avenue to East Jefferson Street. The closure includes parallel parking spaces just north of East College Avenue, according to the press release.
