You couldn’t ask for a better event to close out Chase Stadium than Inter Miami hosting the MLS Cup for their first time in their history on Saturday. The Herons will host Thomas Muller and the Vancouver Whitecaps who have stormed through the Western Conference. Neither team has ever won an MLS Cup in their history, and while Messi and Miami may be the favorites in this, Muller has had the advantage when they’ve met, winning seven of the 10 meetings, including the 2014 World Cup final with Germany, the only final where the duo have faced off prior to Saturday.
As each team has a head coach in their first year and are led by a global superstar, it’s easy to make comparisons between Inter Miami and the Vancouver Whitecaps, but they just about end there. Even when it comes to facilities, Vancouver don’t know where they’ll play next season, with the lease for BC Place expiring at the end of December and no movement on a new lease, while Miami are set to unveil the glitzy Miami Freedom Park next season.Â
From Sebastian Berhalter pacing the Vancouver midfield to Rodrigo De Paul and Sergio Busquets leading Miami, there’s plenty to watch out for during this match, which will also be the final one of Busquets’ and Jordi Alba’s careers, with the duo set to retire at the end of the season.Â
