TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Hundreds of families received free Christmas gifts Saturday thanks to one Tallahassee school’s annual toy drive.
“It feels amazing to be able to help the parents of this community,” Brownsville Preparatory Institute Principal Bridgette McCloud said.
This is the fifth year of the school’s holiday toy drive, and this year, they collected nearly 5,000 toys for families who may not be able to give their kids a gift on Christmas.
McCloud said part of the school’s mission is to serve the community around them, and they want students to understand those efforts firsthand. “We teach the kids that the community is our family,” she said.
The drive-through style distribution allows parents to remain in their cars the entire time. “The smile on the children’s faces, and the smiles on parent’s faces just lights up as we pass out those gifts,” McCloud said.
This year’s drive was held at Griffin Middle School. McCloud said it would not be possible if it weren’t for the generous toy donations from people, community groups and businesses.
