The College Football Playoff bracket has been revealed.
The top four teams were pretty straightforward — No. 1 Indiana, No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Georgia and No. 4 Texas Tech — will all get first-round byes into the quarterfinals.

After that, the Nos. 5-8 seeds are, in order, Oregon, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Oklahoma. Those four teams will all host first-round games.
The drama came in the lower seeds, with Alabama earning the No. 9 seed despite a blowout loss in the SEC championship game, and Miami taking the No. 10 seed as the final at-large team in the field.
Miami overtook Notre Dame for the final spot despite neither team playing this week.
The final two spots went to conference champions: No. 11 Tulane (American) and No. 12 James Madison (Sun Belt). That leaves ACC champion Duke out of the field because it was unranked compared to Tulane and JMU.

The CFP bracket was finally revealed Sunday … and people weren’t happy about the process. A number of college-football analysts threw ire at the selection committee for being inconsistent throughout the year.
In particular, people questioned why Miami suddenly jumped Notre Dame and how Alabama was not punished after a blowout loss Saturday.

For those wondering why the rankings release is taking so long, this is normal. ESPN needs to fill 3+ hours of programming with this show, so they have to string this part out as long as they can.

It doesn’t seem to matter how big the playoff gets, there will always be somebody that gets left out.
SEC commissioner Greg Sankey was lobbying for 7 of his conference teams to get into the bracket yesterday, as silly as that sounds. And now Nick Saban and others are calling for expansion of the field to get more SEC teams into it.

We are moments away from the bracket reveal and these appear to be the most pressing questions:

This is a real pickle for the committee. Does it…
– Ignore one of the key head-to-head results of the season?
– Snub a Notre Dame team that passes the eye test with flying colors?
– Or risk enraging the SEC to the point of possibly seceding from college football?
Those are three less-than-ideal options, but after Alabama’s embarrassing performance Saturday, the correct one is right in front of the committee’s face.

The ACC’s nightmare is nearing reality. The conference could completely miss out on the College Football Playoff.
Duke beat No. 17 Virginia 27-20 in overtime on Saturday night in the ACC championship game for the Blue Devils’ first conference title since 1962. But with Duke at 8-5 and highly unlikely to be ranked in Sunday’s College Football Playoff rankings, there’s a realistic scenario that no ACC team will make the 12-team field.
No. 25 James Madison won its conference title game, so the Dukes are expected to get the final spot in the field. The ACC’s only other shot would be an at-large berth for Miami.

The College Football Playoff committee doesn’t have a straightforward task on Sunday.
Most of the questions are around which teams will be ranked Nos. 9 and 10 after Alabama’s no-show in the SEC title game. The Tide will be compared with Notre Dame and Miami, and only two of the teams will make the field.
